SomnoFlo®: the low-flow anesthesia system built for small animal patients
Traditional vaporizers were not designed for mice and rats.
SomnoFlo is the purpose-built, low-flow anesthesia system that helps you reduce anesthetic waste, support animal welfare, and simplify small animal anesthesia workflows.
SomnoFlo® low-flow anesthesia system
SomnoFlo is a low-flow electronic vaporizer that draws directly from the bottle.
Its compact design takes up little counter space and is capable of producing carrier gas rates as low as 50 mL/min.
A built in air compressor allows for delivery of vaporized anesthetic using room air, or attach the SomnoFlo to a source of compressed gas. The choice is yours.

Is designed specifically for mice, rats, and other small or exotic animals

Supports 3Rs animal welfare goals

Helps substantially reduce isoflurane waste

Is built for practical lab workflows
Traditional vaporizers weren't made for tiny patients
For small animal anesthesia, “good enough” equipment can create real tradeoffs.
Higher flow, more waste, less precision, and more workflow friction all add up—especially when you’re trying to protect animal welfare and stretch a tight budget.
- Too much gas: traditional setups can push more anesthetic and carrier gas than small patients really need.
- Too much waste: excess isoflurane use adds cost fast, especially across repeated procedures.
- Too much friction: bulky, inconsistent, or overcomplicated workflows slow teams down and introduce variability.
The low-flow anesthesia system designed for small animals
SomnoFlo helps researchers move away from large-animal-style anesthesia delivery and toward a lower-flow approach that fits small patients better. That means better control, less waste, and a simpler workflow for common rodent anesthesia applications.

Better welfare A lower-flow approach supports more appropriate anesthetic delivery for small animal patients.

Better workflow A smaller, simpler setup helps reduce hassle and improve day-to-day consistency.

Better long-term cost control Reduced anesthetic waste can translate into meaningful savings over time.
We’re not about making research “cheap.” It’s about making anesthesia more appropriate, more efficient, and easier to manage.
How much could you save with SomnoFlo?
Calculate your savings using a SomnoFlo Digital Vaporizer vs. Traditional Vaporizer:
Calculation based on:
- Flow rate of 0.2 L/min for SomnoFlo & 2 L/min for traditional
- Iso concentration of 2%
- Annual calibration cost of $200 - $300* for traditional.
- Average cost of a typical 250 mL bottle size of Iso is $35: Volume x $35 x 4 = $Cost/year
- Compressed gas fees vary from academia to pharma. Most tanks are rented with fees for tank fill/replacement averaging ~ $1,000/year.
- Calculations are based upon a specific customer request, and can be adjusted to other specific uses.
How SomnoFlo® works
SomnoFlo draws directly from the bottle
Its compact design takes up little counter space and is capable of producing carrier gas rates as low as 50 mL/min. The built in air compressor allows for delivery of vaporized anesthetic using room air, or attach the SomnoFlo to a source of compressed gas.
SomnoFlo operates with ambient air or compressed gas
The SomnoFlo low-flow anesthesia system operates using an internal air pump with ambient air or with compressed gas. For gas supplied at > 15psi, the SOMNO-7305 Preset Pressure Reducer is required to regulate the pressure.
SomnoFlo draws anesthetic directly from the standard 250mL bottle placed in a convenient holder outside the vaporizer.
